The vast majority of disputes that Steven deals with are based on a contract. Contracts can be written down (express) or oral (implied).
A contract is where one party agrees to do something for another, usually in return for payment. Typically, a contract will be for the supply of goods, or the supply of services (or both), but can be in respect of any subject matter.
There is some legislation which governs contracts and contracts disputes. If the contract is business to business, then the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 probably apply.
If the contract is business to consumer, then the Consumer Rights Act 2015 typically apply. There's plenty of other legislation which applies to consumers too which I can advise on of course.
A contract dispute then is when one party doesn't do what they should have under the contract. Lawyers call this a breach of contract and typically breaches include:

A Letter of Claim on a contract dispute is likely to cost between £1000-£3000 plus VAT
If your claim is worth less than £50,000 then you’ll probably be better off doing it yourself.
Fast Track claims (between £10,000-£50,000) can typically cost between £8,000 and £20,000 plus VAT to Trial.
Multi Track Claims (over £50,000 up to £1,000,000) typically cost between £20,000 and £50,000 plus VAT.
